Workshops

CERC offers several employment focused workshops that will assist you greatly in your job search, career development and maintaining employment. Please consult our calendar to register to attend the next available session.
Job Searching
A half day workshop providing tips and knowledge to help you find and land your next opportunity. Participants will learn how to effectively job search, and obtain necessary tools for job searching. This workshop is ideal for those who are job ready, have the necessary skills and experience for their job goal, and need some support to get to their next job.
Career Discovery
One four hour session that will assist participants to discover their skills, values, interests, and work personality. Simple career assessments (Career Dimensions and Career Cruising) and tools (Skills and Values cards) are used to assist with exploring and deciding on realistic career choices. Guidance on occupational and labour market research, decision making, goal setting, and action planning will also be provided. This workshop is ideal for those who would like assistance in finding their career goal and set the direction of their employment search.
Interview Preparation
A three hour workshop that prepares individuals for attending job interviews. Participants will learn effective interview skills and receive tips on how to succeed in an interview. Participants will also have a chance to review samples of “good” and “bad” interviews as well discuss best interview practices.
Smart Serve
In-class training for individuals interested in working in environments that serve alcohol.
Resume Clinics
Offered weekly, this is a very brief (aproximately 10 minutes long) presentation,followed by the opportunity to ask questions of staff member so to tweak and target their resumes. Please bring a job posting of interest and your resume on a USB key. Participants must have strong Microsoft Word skills and a realistic job goal.
Apprenticeship Information
An information session for those interested in pursuing a career in the trades. Participants will learn about the various routes to become an apprentice.
WHMIS
WHMIS training is available online everyday.
Social Media
Learn how to effectively use social media (Twitter, Face Book and Linkedin) in your job search. This is not an introduction to social media workshop. Participants must have a profile on at least two of the platforms.
Next Chapter Workshop
A workshop designed to help older workers return to the workforce. Some topics will include: reasons older workers continue to work, different generations within the workforce and effective job strategies
