EMPLOYER: Governor General's Foot Guards

Governor General’s Foot Guards

We are a regiment in the Primary Reserve, training part-time infantry soldiers to support our regimental activities and the operations of the Canadian Armed Forces.

At the core of our unit, we are infantry reserve soldiers who train part-time and full-time for domestic and international missions. This involves training for domestic operations like the 1998 Ice Storm where the unit deployed to help the citizens of Ontario recover from a national disaster. It also involves training for international operations and support to the Regular Force in countries such as Haiti, Afghanistan and Sudan, where troops from our regiment have deployed in recent years.

As Guards, we share a close connection to the Governor General and participate in ceremonies in the Ottawa area. The Regiment has conducted the ceremony on Parliament Hill and at Rideau Hall for over 40 years. Our full dress uniform, with the scarlet tunic and bearskin hat, is immediately recognizable and one of the two uniforms worn by the ceremonial guard during the summer.

We are currently looking for individuals to fill positions as:

Infantry Soldier (In demand)

Infantry Officer

Logistics Officer

Financial Services Administrator

Human Resources Administrator

Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve – Army

The Canadian Army Reserve is an integrated part of the Canadian Army (CA) that contributes to the success of military operations at home and abroad.

Within Canada, the Reserve is consistently part of every domestic operation when the Army is called upon to assist provincial governments with natural disasters such a floods or fires, as well as with other events where the Army is asked to help, such as the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In international (expeditionary) operations, the role of the Reserve is to augment, sustain and support deployed Regular Force members. This has proven successful around the world, most notably in Afghanistan over the last decade.

Equally important, the Reserve provides an Army presence in over 100 communities across Canada, putting a familiar, local face on the Army for the Canadian public.

It is important to note that the Reserve employs part-time soldiers, who on voluntary occasion can enter full-time contracts here in Ottawa and abroad. There is no mandatory deployment with the Reserve. We are flexible with work hours and frequently cater to individuals who already have full-time jobs or are students, as such, our general training times are weekday nights (Tuesday 7:00pm-10:00pm for our unit) and one weekend training exercise a month.

For students, we offer a $2,000 bursary for every year of post-secondary school completed, up to $8,000 maximum. We also provide guaranteed full-time summer employment for the first 4 years an individual joins the Primary Reserve.

The initial step to begin the application process is to contact our recruiting team at GGFG.Recruiting@forces.gc.ca and state that you would like to apply to our unit.
