JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Overview
The Furniture Bank truck driver is responsible for the truck, its safety and operation. The driver will be the lead person, supervising truck assistants and ensuring all safety procedures are followed. As a representative of Matthew House Furniture Bank, the driver must uphold the organizations values, interacting with donors and clients in a kind and professional manner which upholds dignity. The driver must be able to determine acceptable condition of furniture donations from donors, and will be responsible for money transactions. The truck driver will perform, coordinate and instruct on loading procedures and be familiar with our warehouse facilities, taking responsibility for safe and efficient storage of furniture donations. The position requires a person who can lift heavy furniture.
The driver will liaise with the deliveries and pickups coordinator on best trucking methods and routing and may be required to perform other duties other than driving as and when required.
Reporting
The driver will report directly to the Program Director.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
Truck safety and operation - Furniture delivery and pickup - Loading and off- loading heavy furniture - supervising truck assistants - warehouse duties - planning truck routing - communicating with donors and clients - handle cash transactions.
Truck Inspection:
Follow Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration requirements, inspecting truck before each day’s first trip and recording all necessary information.
Check all Insurance and CVOR documents are up-to-date
Check all truck fluid levels and top up where needed
Inform Program Director of any service requirements for the truck or pending expiration of insurance and CVOR documents
Maintain all safety equipment, dollies and other moving materials in the truck
Deliveries and Pickups:
Understand and implement Furniture Bank procedures
Good communication skills and awareness of cultural diversity
Municipal and building parking policies awareness
Loading and off -loading skills
Health and safety standards awareness
Knowledge of items accepted and not accepted
Detail oriented documentation
Receipting and cash handling
Supervision:
Delegate responsibilities and instruct truck assistants in all operations
Other
Warehouse:
Assist in warehouse as required
Working conditions:
Lifting of heavy objects, fluid work environment
Steel toe shoes strongly recommended
Work hours may vary due to volume of work
