Position: Diabetes Educator Dietitian 

Site: Weeneebayko General Hospital with organized travel throughout the Health Authority Region 

Division: Clinical Services 

Reports to: Manager of Diabetes Education Program and Program Team Lead 

Status: Permanent Full-time

 

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Diabetes Educator Dietitian.

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Peawanuck. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. Position Profile Requirements: 

• Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

• Effective oral communication techniques and interpersonal skills 

• Knowledge and skill in the application of the professional sciences of food, nutrition, and management 

• Motivated professional with a desire to work in a high-performance workplace setting 

• Demonstrated ability to work independently

 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Provide professional nutritional therapy, education and prevention to clients for the management of Prediabetes, T1 and T2 diabetes in both children and adults, as well as Gestational diabetes 

• Plan, carry out and evaluate care to inpatient and outpatient diabetes clients virtually via telemedicine and phone, and in-person via WAHA’s hospital and clinic sites 

• Work within an interdisciplinary team of dietitians, nurses, foot care professionals, doctors, nurse practitioners and endocrinologists 

• Work under medical directives to provide extended services including insulin adjustment and management, and lab work ordering 

 

Qualifications/Experience: 

• Degree in Applied Human Nutrition with completion of accredited internship. New Grads welcome. 

• Current Diabetes Educator certification an asset (CDE must be obtained within 2 years of hire at the earliest eligible opportunity if not currently certified) 

• Knowledge of Indigenous health issues as well as the geographic region of the James Bay coast is considered an asset
