Payroll Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION:


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Process complex bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly unionized and non-union payrolls;
  • Responsible for time sheet audit, verifying, balancing, adjusting entries from the electronic Time & Attendance system for the imports;
  • Liaise with all managers and employees to assist with Time & Attendance;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all personal leave banks;
  • Required to be payroll compliant with all aspects of the collective agreements, HR Manuals and CLC for GAFAE, CALDA, UNIFOR, ALPA, CUPE & Non-Bargaining groups;
  • Assist with the balancing of payroll codes to the backup on a per pay basis;
  • Responsible for the calculations and preparation of manual cheques and EFT payments to outside vendors;
  • Responsible for Terminations/Leaves-ROE's;
  • Responsible for entry of all New Hires, Changes, Increases, retro calculations, Personal Information, employee benefits into the HRIS system;
  • Responsible for the calculation and preparation of Company portion RRSPs, union dues, cash link, garnishees, Rent and Home/Auto;
  • Responsible for Report on Hirings to Service Canada monthly for compliance;
  • Monthly Stats Canada reports for different locations as requested;
  • Responsible for the preparation of all payroll journal entries;
  • Responsible for the analysis of all payroll clearing accounts on a monthly basis;
  • Assist with year-end as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Education (3 years) with payroll speciality;
  • Four (4) years payroll experience in a unionized environment;
  • Enrolled or completed Canadian Payroll Association Certificate- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP);
  • Strong Excel skills required;
  • Experience with payroll software; Ultimate Software an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify and research problems;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and effective time management;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to prioritize without guidance;
  • Proven customer service skills with a strong customer focus;
  • Excellent communication skills- verbal and written;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
