JOB DESCRIPTION:


PART-TIME / CASUAL - INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

Seniors on Site is a family-owned home care services company providing quality and compassionate care to seniors. As we continue into the gardening & yard work season, we are looking for mature individuals (age 40+), located in the Ottawa to join our team who are interested in helping seniors with yard work, gardening, garden clean-up and ongoing maintenance.

Duties

Light Gardening (light/regular labour intensity) - Light weeding (i.e. upkeep of gardens that have been maintained the previous year; eliminating small or sporadic weeds between pavers), potting/planting, pruning/trimming flowers/small shrubs or plants, transplanting small plants/shrubs with small/weak root systems; deadheading, light soil turnover, mulching, basic edging, seeding, light raking, basic lawn mowing/grass-cutting for small to medium-sized lawns.

Heavy Gardening or Yard Work (more labour-intensive tasks) - Cleanup of unmaintained garden beds; repair of lawn in poor condition, heavy weeding (i.e. pulling overgrown, large or stubborn weeds; lawn weeds, i.e. crab-grass; eliminating a large amount, overgrown or stubborn weeds between pavers); vigorous raking/raking of a large lot/and or uneven terrain; use of a leaf blower or pressure washer; cleaning siding; trimming/pruning larger or unmaintained/overgrown plants (i.e. shrubs, cedar hedges, vines, small trees); cleaning/moving patio stones; lifting of heavy items; frequent use of wheelbarrow and/or wheelbarrowing heavy loads; installing edging; vigorous digging/shoveling; heavy or difficult soil turn-over; digging up roots/clay/rocks; transplanting larger shrubs/plants (i.e. with established root systems).

Qualifications:

  • Skill and experience in gardening and yard work
  • Fairly open availability throughout the week
  • Compassionate, reliable, punctual, strong ability to stick with commitments
  • Current Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector (within one year), or willing to obtain one
  • Able to provide at least two professional references from a supervisor or manager and 1 personal reference from a colleague
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle would be beneficial
  • Previous experience in dealing with the senior community is an asset
