JOB DESCRIPTION:


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Learn the basics about insulation
  • Cut and MITRE 45 & 90 properly
  • Differentiate between hot and cold piping
  • Exposed and conceal
  • Pipe sizes
  • How to measure and write down materials
  • Stack and store material
  • Basic House keeping
  • Learn and follow all safety policies
  • Can Install(tape/Pin) board
  • Effectively complete concealed work
  • Follow directions for concealed and exposed work
  • Can install preformed fittings (90,45,T,Vic & Flange Cover)
  • Prepare canvas & Apply lagging
  • Cut metal, PVC & Clad (add overlap, two-way tape, safety edge)
  • Apply caulking effectively
  • Can sort and organize projects
  • Cut and install fire wrap
  • Install banding
  • Apply Fire Caulking

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed Probation Period
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Some Construction Experience
  • Minimum of WHMIS safety training Required Working at Heights
  • Be able to learn and take direction
  • Be able to work independently
  • Moving material, unloading and loading
  • Housekeeping
  • Work safely and tidy
  • Handling and correctly using various hand and power tools such as: saws, caulking guns, metal working and metal cutting equipment
  • Good Math Skills
  • Be physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying heavy materials and items
  • Drivers License
  • No Criminal Record
  • Member of College of Trades

 

Work Conditions

The standard work week for 1st Heat and Frost Insulators is 40-44 hours a week.  As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on the construction site you work in and will vary from one job to the next. In general, the regular work day is 7am-3:30pm. It is important to understand that some jobs dictate that we work different hours; this will be paid as regular hours unless specifically notified that there will be a premium on those jobsites. All workers are expected to follow in a safe manner and always wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, high vision safety vests, safety glasses gloves and steel-toed boots and more as required from job to job as well as attend scheduled health and safety courses as required.

Working as a Heat and Frost Insulator you can expect to:

  • work indoors or outdoors
  • bend or stand for long periods of time
  • possibly be exposed to high levels of dust and hazardous working materials where you will be required to wear masks, and other safety clothing for protection that can be hot and uncomfortable
  • work on ladders, scissor lifts, scaffolds
  • travel from job to job
  • Observe and implement personal and construction safety
