Personal Care Attendant

EMPLOYER: Layla Salah

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hiring for Monday, Tuesday Thursday and Sunday. Two positions available. Three hour shifts - some days are busier than others and even if we finish in under three hours, attendants will always be paid for the entire shift. Weekday start times: 5pm (occasionally 7pm on Mondays, I have an evening meeting once a month on Mondays from 5pm-6:30). Sunday start time: anytime late morning-mid afternoon. Located in Centretown West neighbourhood of Ottawa (near Bronson and Gladstone).

I’m an adult woman with cerebral palsy needing assistance with aspects of housekeeping personal care and activities of daily living. I can bear weight and do pivot transfers, so no lifting is necessary. Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Cooking
  • Meal prep
  • Cleaning (light housekeeping)
  • Laundry
  • Showering
  • Dressing/undressing
  • Nail cutting
  • Grocery shopping

Starting salary is $16.50/hour, maximum wage is $18.50/hour. There is currently a $3/hour wage increase for Temporary Pandemic Pay, but I have no idea if this increase will eventually be made permanent or how long it will last. Payment method is bi-weekly, via cheque, with time and a half for all stat holidays - subject to all standard tax deductions. I receive attendant care funding from an Ontario government program, Direct Funding; this means I cannot hire through an agency, pay cash, or offer a higher wage than what Direct Funding allows. PSW training is an asset but not necessary - my needs are not complex and I train all new hires myself.

3 month probationary period.  Must be fully vaccinated against COVID.
