Mental Health Culturally Sensitive Partner - Term Contract (part-time 0.80 FTE)

 

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Mental Health Lead the Mental Health Culturally Sensitive Partner will  build trust by creating a welcoming and culturally-safe environment, spiritually, socially, emotionally and physically for students and school staff.  The purpose of this part-time (0.80 FTE) position is to address and mitigate the cultural barriers existing that may prevent youth from attending school and to help them flourish. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strengthen the relationship of the students within their school community.
  • Work closely with school teams to help identify culturally relevant needs in the school and identifying discrepancies
  • At the elementary level, transition students to support within their school community (for example, educational assistants and resource teachers)
  • Provide staff (Tier 1) with the required assistance of this valuable asset-based mental health and culturally sensitive school-based partner
  • Be on call/demand and group with teachers who would like to better understand and work with students from certain backgrounds
  • Provide support to educators but also consultation via the school Principal to Tier 2 and 3 workers (clinicians) if necessary, under specific school needs and circumstances
  • Help teachers and staff work through the cultural dilemma experienced in providing support to racialized and special education students from an asset based perspective with the focus on building relationships and promoting the emotional well being of students

 

Qualifications:

  • A member of the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers, the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds and group facilitation
  • Ability to collect, track and analyze data
  • Experience giving presentations and providing learning opportunities to staff, students and parents
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams as well as independently
  • Solid interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven problem solving and decision making ability

 

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Has or is working towards a Masters degree in a related field
  • A.S.I.S.T and /or SafeTALK training
  • Training in various School Mental Health Ontario Evidence-Based Trainings
  • Familiarity with Google applications

 

The successful candidate will be required to comply with the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy Staff and Visitor COVID-19 Mandatory Testing and Vaccination Policy for the health and safety of students, staff and the broader school board community.
